Which game do you play on your phone?

Are you a candy crusher or an angry bird that launches itself in the air to obliterate a bunch of pigs?

Both of those games are okay, but I am more of a Wordle guy. I’m not kidding when I say I play the New York Times Wordle game nearly every day. It’s true, we all have time for what we want to do. I am hoping Wordle will keep me mentally sharp. May I ask?  Do you play Wordle? Greg, I don’t even know what Wordle is. That’s fair. Let me explain; Wordle allows you six chances to guess a 5-letter word.

You know, words like:

MUSIC
LEVEL
CAUSE
SUPER
PARTY

Any 5-letter word. My favorite Wordle was the word AGAPE. I bet you know why! It dawned on me recently how many powerful 5-letter words are found in the Scriptures, so I thought we could play Bible Wordle. I’m not sure if you’re laughing or crying right now but let’s give it a try. I will provide you with clues and you determine the word. To be fair, one letter can be used twice. Like, there could be two O’s in the same word. Example: FLOOD. So here we go, let’s play BIBLE WORDLE…

___ ___ ___ ___ ___
This is God’s favor. We cannot earn our salvation so Jesus died in our place. One hymn writer called this nothing short of amazing.

___ ___ ___ ___ ___ or  ___ ___ ___ ___ ___
Two separate words that mean the same thing. The Hebrew writer said we cannot please God without believing. Jesus said that we have to “take him at his word.” The writer in Proverbs said this is what we must do with “all our hearts.”

___ ___ ___ ___ ___
This is the title of a fallen angel. He accuses us before God day and night.

___ ___ ___ ___ ___
He is the One God sent. John tells us why God sent him.
1 John 3:8 (NIV2011) 8 …The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the devil’s work.

___ ___ ___ ___ ___
Jesus came to forgive us, but that’s not the whole story. We cannot sit around basking in God’s forgiveness. If we are deeply grateful for the gift of grace we will want others to know what we have.  Jesus did not die for us to simply wait for heaven to arrive. He wants us to wash people’s feet, lead a High School small group, or pack food for people around the corner or around the world. I like the promise Jesus made. If we obey his commands, one day he will look at us and say, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.”

Did you get them all? Want to join me on this Bible Wordle adventure? What Bible 5-letter word stands out to you? I would like to make a list. Email me your Wordle at greg@wcchurch.life or text me at 614-332-0574. This might make for a fun message series.
