You can do it, we can help. No power tools required!

I am not a handyman, I can say that with confidence. Although, I feel like I’m getting braver when it comes to taking on house projects.

I installed a new range hood above our stove about two months ago. It involved removing a cabinet, fixing the drywall, painting, and adding the mounting hardware for the hood itself. Did I mention that I had to put a six-inch hole in the side of my house? A SIX-INCH HOLE. That involved power tools, a twenty-foot ladder, and a very nervous wife watching me put a hole in her kitchen. I am happy to say it’s installed and working just fine. I’m pretty happy about that, and so is my wife, Mary.

What does it take to try something you have little skill with?

A new hobby or workout? A house project or fixing your car? You can do it if you plan well and understand the directions. I bet I thought through the steps of that range hood 100 times.

As we are still dealing with the lingering issues of social distancing and COVID-19, let me encourage you to try something new. The funny thing about this is that it’s not new, but maybe we have just forgotten how important this is. People. That’s it. You and I need people, and people need you.

Let me ask you some open-ended questions just to spur you on.

  • Are you in a WC Group or GROW group?

  • Have you called anyone to check in on them?

  • Has anyone called you?

  • Is it time to return to in-person services safely and distanced way?

  • Have you thought about finding a spiritual mentor or maybe reaching out to someone to begin a mentoring relationship? It can be so rewarding.

  • Have you thought through our 4G Discipleship: GATHER, GROW, GIVE, and Go? Ask yourself how well you are accomplishing those four words. Measure yourself.

None of these questions will involve power tools or get you off the ground on a ladder.

It just involves our willingness to say that people are so critical, and I need to do my part in making sure Jesus is represented well. I need to do my part to ensure my life with Christ grows daily.

My next project is replacing the floor in our upstairs bathroom. I’m already thinking and learning what I need to do. I am excited to see the finished results. Let’s get excited to see the results in the lives of people as well. Find your phone and give someone you haven’t spoken to in a while a call. They will be blessed by your care and concern. Make 2021 all about people. Relationships need attention and care as a house does. Let’s get to work loving on people around us.
