He is WONDERful!

“It’s the most wonderful time of the year!” The Christmas season is upon us!

Now there is really no escaping the Christmas songs, Starbucks Holiday cups, and talks of snow and Egg Nog. But that’s not all bad. Everything has a time and a season to shine. With Christmas, it’s snow, holly jolly joy, and the magic and wonder of Santa Claus. We watch movies and hang up decorations. We look for the best deals on presents and dust off Christmas tree ornaments from years past. It really is a pretty incredible time of year.

But once the 25th has come and gone, so does most of the amazement and joyfulness found during this time of year. Why is this? Is it because presents have been given and trees were thrown in the front yard? Or because our taste for “Silent Night” and Egg Nog has soured?

What I think happens is that we forget the real gift of Christmas. God sent his son Jesus to bring us his love, joy, and peace. This is the gift that keeps on giving and that can be shared with everyone!

Luke 2:8-14 says,

“And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. And the angel said to them, "Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a Baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger." And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among those with whom He is pleased!"

The wonder of Christmas isn’t that reindeer can fly or that an old man can squeeze down a chimney and bring us exactly what we wished for. The wonder belongs to Jesus and him alone!

“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.”

Isaiah 9:6-7
