How did Daniel Stay Faithful?
Daniel Week 6 Personal study blog
Based on the October 16 message by Greg Bondurant
Abuse. A word that has so many connotations today. No one should suffer abuse from anyone. Unfortunately, it happens now, and it happened to Daniel too.
Daniel dealt with four Kings of various levels of abuse or misguided thinking. Today, we’re talking about the famous miracle of Daniel and the Lion’s den. I have heard this story so many times, and it never stops amazing me what Daniel’s faith physically did in protecting him overnight.
Read Daniel chapter 6 from start to finish.
Questions for you to explore:
Read Daniel 6:4. They could not find fault in Daniel, so they had to make a law to frame Daniel for going against King Darius because he prays to God, not to the King. How do you think it feels to be tricked or set up when you are innocent? How is this a way of abuse? Why were the other leaders of the Kingdom so jealous of Daniel?
Read Daniel 6:13-23 again. This is the details of the Lions Den miracle. Remember, King Darius did not want to do this; he had to because of the law he was tricked into making. In verse 16, why is this significant that King Darius recognizes the relationship that Daniel and God have? What was conflicting King Darius all night that he couldn’t sleep?
We don’t have details on this in scripture but let’s use our God-given imaginations for a few moments. Daniel is in the Den. The stone is covering the entrance. It’s most likely dark. It could have been cold. It was full of hungry lions. There was an angel. Imagine the scene. What do you think happened in that den overnight?
Read verses 21-23 again. Daniel was vindicated and found righteous and innocent. Why do you think he responded to King Darius the way he did?
How has Daniel been abused in the book about his life? What has he endured yet kept his faith in the process?
Prayer: Ask God to shut the mouths of whatever lions are in your personal den today. Give God faith that you know he will be present in your circumstance.
