Lost and Found
Have you ever lost something only to find it? Maybe a coat, hat, wallet or phone?
One time I lost my glasses; that was really bad for me because I’m nearsighted. I can’t see anything beyond three feet from my face. It turned out my situation wasn’t crucial since my wife Tricia pointed out that I was holding in my hand the very thing I was looking for – my glasses! What was sort of lost was now found.
Things get left behind at Westerville Christian Church all the time. Things like coats, hats, wallets, phones, and even a ring! We would love to locate the owner of the ring. The ring has these initials engraved on the inside band – BGE. It includes a date – August 8, 2008. 8-8-08 sounds like a wedding date to me. Did you lose your ring? Do the initials BGE ring a bell? If they do, reach out to me at greg@wcchurch.life. I would love for this lost ring to be found.
All of this reminds me of what Jesus said in Luke 15. Three things are lost in this chapter:
One lost sheep. One lost coin. One lost person – a son.
A shepherd finds his lost sheep. A woman finds her lost coin. A father finds his lost son. His son comes back home. Jesus tells us there’s great rejoicing in heaven when something lost is found. This is why Jesus came. This is why the church exists. We want what’s lost – not sure where I came from and not sure where I’m going – to be found.
I encourage you to read all of Luke 15. You’ll find the sheep wandered away on its own. Sheep do that. The coin was lost through no fault of its own. The son left because he was consumed with his own urges and desires; he was selfish. Here’s what’s amazing, God’s great love reaches out to find lost sinners no matter why or how they got there. That’s why I love him. I hope we find the owner of this mysterious 8-8-08 ring because it’s really cool when something lost is found.
