Scary Stuff Personal Study
Daniel Week 8 Personal study blog
Based on Sunday, October 30, message by Greg Bondurant
Pastor Greg shared a lot of biblical truths for us to digest and learn from in his message.
I would encourage you to watch this message again to refresh your mind on what he shared.
Read Daniel chapter 1 from start to finish.
Our culture. We are dealing with scary stuff that has slowly eroded away what were acceptable and unacceptable ways to live our lives. How confusion is taking hold of us. Pray right now for God to give you a mind for clarity and that you can see God in the present world we live in.
Questions for you to explore:
What scares you the most about our present society and how people live? What can you do about that personally? What do we know about God that can give us hope no matter what is happening around us?
The biggest problem facing many people today is “confused identities.” Jesus simply wants us to base our identity in Him 100%. How would your life be different if Jesus was that close to you if you did that?
Read verses 3-6 in Daniel 1. This text describes what the Babylonians were doing to influence Daniel and his friends to forget who they are. Their identity. Why didn’t this work? What kept Daniel and his friends focused on who they truly are?
Read Genesis 1:27. We were all created in the image of God. We are all created, either male or female. How has our society confused that so much over the last 40 years?
Read Daniel 1:6-8. How do these verses help you understand why Daniel did not choose to be like the Babylonians? Read Leviticus 11 and Exodus 24:15 as well to guide you.
Remember these two questions from Greg’s message. First, what did Daniel do? Daniel found his identity in God. Daniel knew that he was made in the image and likeness of God. Not in the image of Marduk. Not in the confused, highly sexualized culture that thrived in Babylon. Do you want God to show favor to you as he showed favor to Daniel? Then live as Daniel lived with God as your identity.
In today’s world, we must be able to speak both grace and truth to those whose identity is not in God yet. Who are confused about who they are. Who they even think they are. Remember this statement: May the bridge of grace be so strong that it holds the weight of truth in our lives.
You will have friends, family, and co-workers who are dealing with a confused identity. You and I have a chance to love them with grace and then show them the truth of Jesus. Please just don’t beat them with truth or leave truth out. We must have both.
Your question: What do grace and truth look like to you, and how can you use them to help others find their true identity in God?
Prayer: Pray however God is leading you to pray right now. Pray for grace and truth to be shared.
