All should sing praises to God!
I love that we see in scripture how, despite circumstances, people worshipped God in song.
I’ve had many people come up to me and say that they aren’t much of a singer but love to hear me sing. So instead of them singing, they listen to me because I sound better. While I am flattered by these kind words, I think that we are selling not only ourselves but God short when we say this. The Bible is particular about who should be singing.
Some examples:
Colossians 3:16, “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.”
James 5:13, “Is anyone among you in trouble? Let them pray. Is anyone happy? Let them sing songs of praise.”
Psalms 96:1-2, “Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, All the earth.
Sing to the LORD, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day.” (emphasis mine)Psalms 98:1, “Sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things; his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him.”
Psalms 98:4, “ Shout for joy to the LORD, ALL the earth, burst into jubilant song with music;” (emphasis mine)
Psalms 104:33, “I will sing to the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.”
Psalms 147:1, “Praise the LORD. How good it is to sing praises to our God, how pleasant and fitting to praise him!”
Psalms 149:1, “Praise the LORD. Sing to the LORD a new song, his praise in the assembly of his faithful people.”
You see it, right? The Bible says that ALL should sing praises to God! We are called to give praise, honor, and glory where it is due! God is worthy of our praise!! So we need to lift our voices as people who are giving praise to the highest King. Because at the end of the day, it’s not about me, you, or anyone else except Jesus Christ.
John 3:16, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
